/dev/async io

hi all

we just installed oracle 10g on an hpux 11.11 server. all went well except oracle keeps generating trace files complaining about "dev/async device doesnt exist".

we never used it previously, we just use standard vxfs filesystem with oracle sga. i thought this would already qualify as async. what is this /dev/async and what would be the consequences if we do use?

thx in advance

Hi

What is the value of disk_asynch_io in your init.ora file ?

Re: /dev/async io

Well, you're not going to get asynchronous i/o on a vxfs filesystem anyways, you need raw lvols for that.

Here is a thread that will help you understand (and install) async

The messages can be ignored, but if you want to get rid of them take a look at metalink note 60692.1.
This was a bug in 8.0 - interesting that its back in 10g.
