dual processor om kayak xm600
I installed a 2nd identical processor in kayak xm600. It does not show up in
/proc/cpuinfo. and it makes the keyboard lock at boot so I have to press f1
The HP website says that there is a utility for winNT to install a second processor.
I do not have NT.
How can I install 2nd processor ?
cheers

Re: dual processor om kayak xm600
check in /boot, you should see some *smp files.
Modify lilo.conf accordingly to use the SMP kernel (dont forget the initrd entry too).
lilo.conf
########
image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.20-8smp
label=RedHat_9.1
initrd=/boot/initrd-2.4.20-8smp.img
read-only
append="root=LABEL=/"
########
# lilo
# shutdown -r -y 0

Re: dual processor om kayak xm600
I have redhat 9 updated to fedora core
/boot
boot.b kernel.h System.map-2.4.22-1.2115.nptl
chain.b lost+found vmlinux-2.4.22-1.2115.nptl
config-2.4.22-1.2115.nptl module-info vmlinuz
grub os2_d.b vmlinuz-2.4.22-1.2115.nptl
initrd-2.4.22-1.2115.nptl.img System.map
Do I need to recompile. eeek
Would Symetric multi-processing support be enough ?
but why does installing 2nd processor messup keyboard at boot. that is not a kernel problem.
cheers

Re: dual processor om kayak xm600
Just go get a SMP kernel. Once you install and run that, you'll see both CPUs.
I answered one like this the other day:
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=340289
You can pick up a SMP kernel here:
http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/updates/1/i386/
I haven't used Fedora yet, how do you like it?

Re: dual processor om kayak xm600
[root@om kernel]# rpm -i kernel-smp-2.4.22-1.2140.nptl.i686.rpm
error: kernel-smp-2.4.22-1.2140.nptl.i686.rpm: V3 DSA signature: BAD, key ID 4f2a6fd2
error: kernel-smp-2.4.22-1.2140.nptl.i686.rpm cannot be installed
I'll try later maybe it's bad. ftp seems a bit swamped now . must be all those yanks waking up :)
fedora seemed to upgrade from redhat ok. except I lost a game. don't remember which one. neverwinter nights I think.
seems quicker. Can't decide what to switch to; fedora, gentoo or debian.
I'll try gentoo next.

Re: dual processor om kayak xm600
Do you have any resources on where to get parts for the HP Kayak xm600? I am having problems finding reasonable costs on finding more processors and memory. Any suggestions would be appreciated thanks :-)
