/etc/default/passwd

Trying to find out where the default passwd
file that contains rules for passwd file are
contained. Should the file be created under
/etc/default, if so what are some of its options to use.

Thanks

Re: /etc/default/passwd

James,

There's the /etc/default/security file which can be used to specify certain rules like password length. Other than that I'm unaware of such a file.

Re: /etc/default/passwd

If I understood your question correctly:

1) The default passwd file is - /etc/passwd
2) If you are looking for passwd configuration file, it's - /etc/default/security. Check man 4 security for available options or check here:

http://www.docs.hp.com/cgi-bin/fsearch/framedisplay?top=/hpux/onlinedocs/B9106-90011/B9106-90011_top.html&con=/hpux/onlinedocs/B9106-90011/00/01/111-con.html&toc=/hpux/onlinedocs/B9106-90011/00/01/111-toc.html&searchterms=/etc/default/security&queryid=20030611-114200

3) If you are looking for a passwd template file, look here - /usr/newconfig/etc/passwd

4) For passwd file general rules and options:

# man passwd

Re: /etc/default/passwd

A number of system commands and features are configured based on
certain parameters defined in the /etc/default/security configuration
file.

man security

Re: /etc/default/passwd

The file you want is called /etc/default/security.

Do a "man security".

Some options are only supported on trusted systems.

Re: /etc/default/passwd

Can't find the file /etc/default/security file.

Trying to find out where the following message
comes from when adding/modifying a password

"Password too short - must be at least 6 characters"

Is this hard coded in the passwd executable?

Re: /etc/default/passwd

James,

Do a man on "security" and use that info to create the /etc/default/security file. Mine looks like the attachment.

Are you up to date with patches? You may have to install some new patches. Take a look at this thread too:
