Re: finding serial number on rx8640 and rp8420
#getconf MACHINE_SERIAL
Will also give you the serial (if its defined within the server).
I'm not sure about from the mp though. Guessing there is a way.

Which I guess does make a little sense. I would be a little surprised if the MP can see that low of level of the hardware.

Re: finding serial number on rx8640 and rp8420
A vpar should be able to see it:
rp servers:
getsn
RX:
/usr/contrib/bin/machinfo -v |grep serial
Or does that only work on npars and bare metal servers?
I don't have a vpar to test...yet...

Re: finding serial number on rx8640 and rp8420
MP:CM> id
but if you are connected to the MP, you can also connect to the console and run the mentioned commands from the OS.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: finding serial number on rx8640 and rp8420
The ID command works on cell-based servers (different from non-cell based).
vPars or not - all OS based commands are working as usual.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: finding serial number on rx8640 and rp8420
beleive it or not. the way is to start the partition manager and get the chassis serial number.
