Hi ;

I have a question.I am trying to restrict one user to access only his home directory when he use ftp.I am using the home directory entry as
" /home/user1/. " in /etc/passwd.. still when logs with ftp he is able to change his directory.I am using rsh as his shell.

Any suggestions ?Am i doing a wrong set up.
Any help ?

Hello,

basically the answer is: you cannot! At least: not with
the ftpd delivered with HP-UX.
YOu could try to get another ftpd, there are some with
that kind of feature...

Actually, if the machine is running HPUX 11.0 then you can do this. Basically, HPUX 11.0's ftp daemon is an older version of wu-ftpd, which has the ability to chroot a user.
Take a look at the ftpd and ftpaccess man pages for more details.

If you are running 11x then you are running wuftp. You can make a passwd entry to force a chroot to a directory then a chdir to a desired directory. Man ftpaccess for details on how to do this.
