general
I just got a new hp7850 and am having difficulty getting my 3cp5610 3com pci modem and the Intel 82810 AC'97 audio working with RedHat 6.2. In the case of the modem I used cat /proc/pci to obtain the irq (9) and io (0x2400) then used "setserial /dev/ttyS3 irq 9 port 2400 autoconfig". Made a link from ttyS3 -> /dev/modem. In gnome using Dialer configurator in debug mode I get an error saying modem not found, and if I manually configure it, it says it can't initialize it?!
re: audio, Redhat 6.2 says it is supported, is alsa the only option? Thanks in advance. Glenn

Re: general
Hi,
The last time I checked, PCI modems (or winmodem) are not supported in Linux. This leaves you with 2 options: 1. use windows when you need the modem, 2. buy an external modem using one of your serial port.
As for the sound card, you probably need to get a driver from Open Sound Systems for Linux. http://www.4front-tech.com/linux.html
