Re: how extende file system

** IN A NUTSHELL **

let's assume you are trying to increase /dev/vg01/lvol5 mounted at /oracle from 1.5 GB to 2.0 GB as an example.

if you have the additional 500MB of free space in your vg01 volume group

lvextend -L 2000 /dev/vg01/lvol5

after this, if you have online JFS licensed and installed

fsadm -F vxfs -b 2000M /oracle

if you do not have online JFS on this server

umount /oracle
extendfs -F vxfs /dev/vg01/lvol5
mount /oracle

if you do not have any free space on vg01 but a new disk which is not being used by any volume group, lets assume its device files are :

/dev/dsk/c1t4d0
/dev/rdsk/c1t4d0

then you need to create the physical volume out of this disk first:

pvcreate /dev/rdsk/c1t4d0

then add this disk to your vg01

vgextend vg01 /dev/dsk/c1t4d0

then perform the steps from the top of this instructions.

Re: how extende file system

hi,

first and foremost, which logical volume are u extending and do u have online filesystem?

there are different approaches depending on which logical volume u are extending.

please reply.

Re: how extende file system

Hello,

If u don't have the enough space in voloume group then u can follow below instruction.
To extend the physical volume use the following procedure

1)add the disk

2) ioscan -fnC disk

note:identify the new disk path

3)Create the physical volume

pvcreate -f /dev/rdsk/cXtXdX
4)extend the vg
vgextend /dev/vgXX /dev/dsk/cXtXdX

To extend the logical volume

1)umount the mount point

#umount /<>

2)extend the logical volume

#lvextend -L <> /dev/vgXX/lvolX

#extendfs /dev/vgXX/rlvolX

3)mount the file system

#mount <>

Thanx & Regards,

In addition to the replies above:

SAM will do it ;-)

But you must know what you want to do.
