How successful is spamassassin in your firm ?
I find on the Internet, that spamassassin could filter
only up to 20%-30% really spam.
Is it true ?
And for a produktive firm (about 250 users),
I should not use spamassasin.
I should take a spam appliance.
Are you agree ?
kind regards
chris

Re: how successful is spamassassin in your firm ?
I have several tools.
A database of anyone that has ever sent me or my customers spam.
spamassasin plus a few of the other tools that come with squirrelmail.
I'm careful myself not to give email address out except for throwaway address.
I get personally one spam every couple of weeks.
My customers who are not careful still get a hefty volume but its under reasonable control.

Re: how successful is spamassassin in your firm ?
I also use spamcop. Since then my spam mails are reduced with 99%.
You can enable this by adding the line:
dnl # Anti spam
FEATURE(`enhdnsbl', `bl.spamcop.net', `"Spam blocked see: http://spamcop.net/bl.shtml?"$&{client_addr}', `t')dnl
Visit www.spamcop.net before and read well.
Good luck!

Re: how successful is spamassassin in your firm ?
i have used spamassassin with Razor and online list of ip address.
it reduced spam by over 80% with one single catch that it required internet connection and delayed mail delivery process.
spamassassin if called via sendmail gets forked for each new mail to check for spam, so if your server gets more than 30 mails per minute then that many instances of spamassassin will be running and its more likely that your server goes for a toss.
spamd, daemonized version of spamassassin, works great in this kind of scenario.

Gopi

Re: how successful is spamassassin in your firm ?
I will suggest products like Trend Micro's IMSS, if u can afford , which we are using in our company and we r able to filter spam and virus mails at less than 1 % false positives ( more than 99% is true positives as per our logs ) .
