how to copy the passwd file

We have one production server we need to create same development server like production.
How to copy the password file, user home directory with out creating the user. Please share the details

Is this Standard or trusted?

 

For the former, you could just use cp or vipw(1m), depending on whether there are differences in the users or you want it exactly the same.

 

For home directories you'll need to do a mkdir -p for each new user.  Unless you want the files too.
