installation device index

Hello all,
I am trying to install HP-UX on an HP BL60p blade but am unable to continue past the section where it asks for the index to my boot device. I do not see it in the list. Below is the screen where it asks for the information.

Is there anyway to pass the right path to the install kernel?

Many thanks.

index HW-path Class description
0) 0/1/1/0 ext_bus Ultra320_Wide_LVD_SCSI
1) 0/1/1/0.0.0 disk COMPAQ_BF0368A4B9
2) 0/1/1/0.1.0 disk COMPAQ_BF0368A4B9
3) 0/0/1/0 usb NEC_USB_Interface
4) 0/0/1/1 usb NEC_USB_Interface
5) 0/0/1/2 usb NEC_USB_Interface
6) 120 processor Processor

Enter the index corresponding to the device to use
as the installation source, or 'q' to reboot:

Re: installation device index

Items 1 and 2 are selectable disks. Is the disk you want to use a different one that does not show on the list?

Re: installation device index

Marius,
looks as if you have two disks installed at index 1 and 2.
What happens once you have selected the disk you want to install onto?

Re: installation device index

From the question it is asking for the source (I suppose the install media). I have tried selecting all in the list.

If I select any of the 2 disks (index 1, 2) it fails with the following errors:

* Checking configuration for consistency...
ERROR: parser cannot open file: /var/opt/ignite/INDEX: No such file or
directory (errno = 2)
ERROR: net_cfg_prep: Problems were encountered while parsing configuration
file: "/var/opt/ignite/INDEX". See the messages above for details.
Using instl_adm with the -T and/or -D options on the server may help
isolate the problem. (See instl_adm(1M) and instl_adm(4) man pages.)

So it is for some reason looking for the installation media which does not appear in my list above. I want to know if I can pass the install kernel a parameter for it remember the install device (i.e. the external dvd).

Many thanks,
Marius

Re: installation device index

Marius,
I think we all missed the "installation source" in the question, sorry.

I assume you have the base model (without HPUX), rather than pre-configured model.

Is your DVD drives one of the USB devices?

Marius,
also are you working from this document ?

Re: installation device index

I do not believe so. I have tried selecting all 3 devices and all fail.

Re: installation device index

Peter,
I have looked over that document. The problem is that the installation does not even begin. Immediately after booting from the install CD from EFI I get the screen from my first post.

Is there a kernel parameter that I can pass to the install kernel which tells it where its installation media is located?

Thanks,
Marius

Re: installation device index

Hi all,

I am still having problems installing HP-UX. The system is a bl60p and it seems to require a media kit that is at least from march 2005. I have one from december 2005 so this should not be a problem.

I am however now getting the following error:

HP-UX Boot Loader for IPF -- Revision 2.026

AUTO ==> boot :IINSTALL

The system at this point is hung. Loking through the system logs I see the following:

The media kit is a Mission Critial OE form Dec. 2005. Anyone know where the problem might be? I have tried on two different bl60p's and the same result.

Thanks for the help.
