linux rc.log

Do you know if there is a HP-UX equivalent of rc.log in Redhat linux?

Re: linux rc.log

Shalom Wilfred,

The messages you would normally find in rc.log are found in /var/log/messages

The format and detail is not the same, but thats where the critical stuff is.

Re: linux rc.log

Thansk Steven, but that is not what I am referring to. I need a log like rc.log that shows all applications started up /shutdown as the system goes through different run levels.

Re: linux rc.log

Try either the output of 'dmesg', or the content of '/var/log/boot.log'.

If all that isn't so good, look at 'initlog', and logging syslog's local7.* somewhere (usually boot.log).
