ls problem when ftping from winnt box to hpux 11 box.

Greetings.

I have an interesting ftp problem under hpux 11 which
does not occur on hpux 10.20.

When I ftp to an nt box outside our firewal and log in and do an ls, the list of files are displayed but the 'ls' command doesn't complete. It seems like hpux 11 ftp
is waiting on some sort of ack from the windows ftp server.

Has anyone experienced this and or have thoughts on this matter?

Thanks

David

I'm a tad confused...did you say coming from an NT to a UNIX 11.0 box?
I'm going with that....I would have to ask if possibly some sort of ftpaccess has been set up. Not being able to run ls, sounds like anonymous ftp issue where you may have neglected to copy the /sbin/ls file to the /home/ftp directory. - or - you have created the ftpaccess file and "over-restricted" it.
Check your /etc/inetd.conf file and see if under the line that says ftp....it ends with a <-a>. Remove this <-a> and try to ftp again...

Just one thought,

The problem is when I ftp to an nt box from an hpux 11 box.

most of the time when I get a list of files, the file list displays but hangs after the list. Not sure why this is.

I hope this serves to clarify. From the hpux side, I we are only dealing with the ftp client.

Thanks for your reply.

I have not experienced this, I am able to get to all my servers.

I would wonder if this is a reverse DNS lookup issue?

Did the IP or system name change between 10.20 and 11?

No, I have not changed ip's and such. If it were dns,
I would have problems with the initial connection. the connection happens fine. It's just that 'ls' hangs like hpux 11 is expecting an ack or something.

Try in ftp prompt with "passive".

We have the same problem. Does anyone know what is the solution. Going from HP-UX 11.0 FTP to NT box. ls/dir command hangs. This was working with hp-ux 10.2

Any help will be very much appreciated.

Re: ls problem when ftping from winnt box to hpux 11 box.

if you want you can try changing the MTU size on your network card on the 11 box. i had the same problem on 11i and solved it by changing the MTU from 4532 to 1500.
u can use lanadmin -M to do this, also make the change in the conf file for your nic in /etc/rc.config.d
then stop, restart the network services.
good luck

Hi David

The solution to your problem is apply SP 6 to your winnt or upgrade to win2000.

Their is some problem with winnt only. You will not notice this problem with win95/win98/win2000. Winnt with SP 6 works ok.
