missing vmunix on 11iv3

Hi All,

i was just simulating on a test environment a corrupted vmunix by deleting /stand/vmunix on 11iv3 so how to recover it using the recovery dvd?

i tried to boot from ISL  with: hpux backup  or  hpux backup/vmunix   without success.

Any suggestion please?

Regards

Re: missing vmunix on 11iv3

Still getting same error message as before.

Is there a way to copy the vmunix directory from recovery media to /stand?

Re: missing vmunix on 11iv3

Time to boot the recovery shell from DVD or test your ignite backup.

But try this first:

ISL> hpux ls

Should look like this:

ISL> hpux ls

Ls
: disk(0/0/2/0.2.0.0.0.0.0;0)/.
lost+found      ioconfig        bootconf        system          krs
system.d        build           vmunix          dlkm            kernrel
rootconf        krs_tmp         system.prev     dlkm.vmunix.prev
vmunix.prev     vpmon           krs_lkg         vpdb

I never used 11.31 on a RISC box, so I'm not sure if this works:

ISL> hpux ls /stand/backup

Hope this helps!

Re: missing vmunix on 11iv3

when trying:

>hpux ls /stand/backup

im getting message:  no such file or directory

just to clarify that from the beginning the simulation beginned by:

cd /stand

rm vmunix*

then reboot.

As no available tape backup, i rebooted from recovery media

loadfile chroot
chroot /ROOT /sbin/sh

how to proceed after this step?

Re: missing vmunix on 11iv3

So you deleted the backup kernel too:

rm vmunix*

Boot into the recovery shell and follow the advisories to make it bootable again.

Google found this: http://docstore.mik.ua/manuals/hp-ux/en/5992-5309/ch15s03.html

Hope this helps!

Re: missing vmunix on 11iv3

when booting from the Core OS and recovery media i do not have the 'c' option mentioned in the link to only rebuild the kernel:

c. Replace the kernel on the root file system.

All what i get is the following output:

HP-UX Recovery MENU
Use this menu to select the level of recovery desired.
Select one of the following:

a.  Mount the root disk and exit to a shell only.

b.  Recover the bootlif/os partitions.

v.  Read information about LVM recovery (LVM.RECOVER).

m.  Return to 'HP-UX Recovery Media Main Menu'.

x.  Exit to the shell.
