moving of oracle from hpux11iv1 to hpux11iv3

Hi Guys,

I have a rp 4440 running with hpux 11i v1 and an rx2660 running on hpux11iv3 .  I need to move oracle from rp4440 to rx2660 . Can I know what are the necessary file and directory I need to move in order to get oracle to run. Oracle version is 8.1.7 .  Kindly advice???

Regards

Vincent

Ideally you should install the latest Oracle for Integrity and migrate your database over.

You could look into 9000 containers:

Hi ,

I'm afraid I cannot install the latest oracle version as my company does not have the budget to do this, as a result I need to use back the old oracle version 8.1.7 on the rx2660 with hpux11iv3 . I understand by moving some directory and files will get the oracle to run, kindly advice??

Hi vinowg,

check this link regarding HP 9000 containers: http://h71028.www7.hp.com/enterprise/us/en/os/hpux11i-transition-hp9000-to-integrity-overview.html

I'm not sure why you can't?  Try this one instead:

HP9000 Containers copies your whole filesystem(s).

Dennis,

he is probably no DSPP member - so he does not get any content.

Best,

Re: moving of oracle from hpux11iv1 to hpux11iv3

Let me make sure I have the right picture, two boxes, one with an old version of Oracle and one with a newer version of Oracle.  Both are working correctly.

Correct?

If correct then this becomes a file system migration problem and a SAN connection problem.

Look into rsync.

Or, if you are going to eliminate the old version of oracle from the old box, then cable both old and new database disks to the old box, make a new file system and copy the old over to the new.  The system will make the necessary conversions.

Re: moving of oracle from hpux11iv1 to hpux11iv3

You need to copy over all of following directory contents

- Oracle installation directory <path_to>/oracle/product to same path with same ownership

- Mount/copy the database directories /u00, /u01 or whereever they are mounted

- Before copying files, create oracle user and oradba group (or whoever is assigned db admin role) to Integrity server.

As Dennis suggested, this process can be greatly simplified if you consider using HP 9000 Containers,

Product portal,

Re: moving of oracle from hpux11iv1 to hpux11iv3

Shalom,

Oracle 8.1.7 is not supported on IA-64 if I'm not mistaken.

HP-9000 containers or a data migration are the only options available to you.

Data migration would be driven by the DBA team.

You start out with the old data files, and then you install a new version of oracle and follow a migration document given to you by Oracle Support (which you need to pull this off).
