need help w/ xh485 mb

I'm working of an xh485 that died with no previous siympoms of problems - hd is ok, as is cpu (both tested in another machine) - it charges the battery and plays cd's - fan comes on, hd chatters once or twice, then nothing - no screen, no video out -

I believe the problem is on the motherboard and prefer to repair in house if possible - any tips, clues, suggestions would be appreciated - is there a common problem with these mb's?
