Hi,

You have some incoherence on your initialisation parameters.

You must to chose on which mode work: pga or old *area_size. I recommend to you to work with the PGA mode.
On the other hand, I recommend to you to avoid the old initialisation parameters and to use the automatic SGA allocation. For that you must to keep only the sga_target parameter and to avoid the initialisation of any buffer parameters without db_16k_cache_size.

OK, thanks for the feedback, as I do appreciate this .. here's the latest status.

DBA's are considering alternative initialization parameters.

I am researching potential patch fixes, and have requested an emergency analysis for 10g on Itanium running HP-UX 11.23

We have modified kernel configurables to use strict Oracle recomendation rather than bumping up certain values to accomodate our 32Gb physical memory

I have applied PHKL_36667 as it references memory problems and oracle with large SGA spaces.

note:
oracle 9 can be installed and will run just fine on this machine, but 10g just terminates at start up with 445 error (above).

Problem Resolved:

Turns out, this was a new install of Oracle 10g on a brand new rx6600.

/etc/nsswitch.conf did not have world read permission, and once that was fixed, everything worked A-OK.

I'm awarding myself 10 points for this one.
