progress dump and load

I have a progress database that needs to be dumped and re-loaded after purging data. Rather than doing the dump and load is it possible to re-index, then backup the database using probkup, then re-create the database extents and restore from tape. Will this have the same effect as the dump and load or do I need to do the dump and load ?

Re: progress dump and load

Do the dump and load, this is better and more secure. You are sure that you will not lose anything. It is more advisable to dump to another disk area and backup from there.

Re: progress dump and load

If you have Version 8 of PROGRESS you can do
a binary dump and load with multiple dumps running at the same time.
