query on HP Library files

I installed some product on HP Itanium machine and realised all the lib files were ending with .so extenstion. I have mostly seen shared libraries with .sl extention on HP and .so on solaris. I would like to know what are these .so files in HP and will these cause any problem in terms of functionality of product.

Those are "elf" libraries. Perfectly fine for itanium based HP-ux systems.

.so is intorduced on IPF platform. PA-RISC still creates/uses .sl extension.

.sl: shared library
.so: shared object file

I have no idea why this nomenclature change.
