"sendmail" can't send mail to local users.

HPUX 11.0, sendmail v8.9.3 with PHNE_24419.

The "sendmail" can successfully send email to any user suffixed with a domain name. However, if the user is a local user account without any domain name, the emails just go to the file dead.letter. Here is error message in mail.log:

==================================
root... Connecting to local...
root... Can't create output
root... forward: /root/.forward.systemaabb: Group writable directory
root... forward: /root/.forward: Group writable directory
/root/dead.letter... Saved message in /root/dead.letter
==================================

Any suggestion is highly appreciated.

Re: "sendmail" can't send mail to local users.

Hi,

Looks like a permission issue with a directory on the system.

In this situation posted below, changing the /tmp directory permissions from 755 to 777 fixed the problem.

http://www2.itrc.hp.com/service/cki/docDisplay.do?docLocale=en_US&docId=200000064128929

The itrc doc id is KBRC00009207.

It also suggests what should be permissions of the files / directories associated with sendmail.

Hope this helps.
