Re: replace processor affect HP-UX

Shalom,

Your box will most likely not work at all.

These upgrades should only be done by HP hardware.

If you have them do it and they update the firmware and other needed componenets then you should not have to do anything.

Re: replace processor affect HP-UX

No need to reinstall the OS or rebuild the kernel, but check that your server firmware is up to date before installing the new processor.

(You did not say your server model, so I cannot check whether there are firmware version requirements for dual-core CPUs or not _for your specific model_.)

After the installation, the OS will see two processors instead of one.

Only the diagnostic programs (or any programs that know how to specifically query for this) will see that the two processors are actually in the same physical package = two cores on one chip.

Re: replace processor affect HP-UX

Please note: OS patches and firmware update may be needed!

Hope this helps!

Re: replace processor affect HP-UX

See this for example - re upgrading cpu to dual core on rx2620:

http://docs.hp.com/en/AD117-9009A/index.html

In particular this is the list of requirements:

1) System Firmware of certain level to support dual core
2) HPUX 11v2 of Jun 2006 (or later).

Re: replace processor affect HP-UX

You can get better answers if you specify what server you have ("model" command), what CPUs are installed ("machinfo"), what firmware is running (MP:CM> sysrev) and what CPUs you want to install (Intel's 9000 or 9100 series).

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
