restart inetd

I commented finger service to the inetd.conf file and to take affect i tried ti restart inetd kill -HUP PID but I can give again finger.

Is the correct way to reset it?
Is anything elese to take in consideration.

Try doing 'inetd -c' and see if that helps.

usually kill -1 or -HUP should work, but at least on HP-UX inetd -c is the official way and definitely works.
yesterday I stood at the edge. Today I'm one step ahead.

finger will always run on the local host. The service in inetd is for remote finger queries, something like this:

finger billh@barney

Do you mean you can stil finger this host from remote machines like finger user@thishost. Because disableing this service does not affect the local finger command, only the remote finger service is disabled...
