restore (1:1 copy) the whole linux on other machine

hi

We're using Backup Exec 12.0 For Windows Servers and we have backuped the whole linux using RALUS.

Howto restore (1:1 copy) the whole linux on other machine (the same hardware) ?

Should I setup first a default linux installation and try to restore using Backup Exec ?

What about partitions ?
We would like to have the same partitions on other server.

Suppose you have 2 hard disks /dev/sda and /dev/sdc. The drive sda has the GNU/Linux install/OS+data. Do a 'dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sdc' and you get an exact copy od disk sda on sdc, partitions and all data. Ensure that the destination drive is of the same size or bigger than the source.

Try with mondo - www.mondorescue.org.

You can create a backup of the running linux and restore.

Shalom,

I have used mondorescue it works very well, especially same hardware to same hardware.

Also if you have some money: http://acronis.com

I've used this with excellent results.

I'd recommend Rapid Deployment Pack, not only can you capture and deploy the image from one server to another, but you can also create scripted installations, and remotely monitor / manage your target servers.
