have you checked out perl-ldap module?

Thanks for the reply, but I'm not a (perl) programmer. I just need to know how many records there are in a certain database.

Shalom,

A common access method uses the ldapsearch command in a perl script.

Its not necessary to be a perl developer to look at some code and get what you need.
