It's true that RMAN lacks a "concepts" manual. It could really use one. The manuals are very vague on how it actually works.

If you are looking at books, definitely try to find one that explains _how_ things like channels work and the "idea" behind RMAN.

If you have access to Metalink, under the "Top Tech Docs" there is a section under Data Server called "RMAN" and in particular a getting started document.

In the regular docs, I suggest you read the Backup and Recovery Guide if you haven't already, _then_ look at the RMAN Users Guide and Reference.

Has anyone got one of the O'Reilly books? Perhaps we can "test" it...
