Re: screen savers

Maaz:

Historically, screen savers were developed to 'save' persistent images from being burned into a monitor when left unattended for long periods of time. Monochrome monitors seemed much more susceptible to this problem but color monitors (particularly older technologies such as CGA and EGA) were not immune to it. As far as I know, LCD panels are immune to this.

Some people used them because they were aethetically pleasing (while the original screen savers were simply blank screens, later ones displayed an eye-appealing image that would change continuously to prevent etching/burning).

Other than that, the security functions inherent in some Windows screen-savers can be very useful since they require someone to logon to Windows to access the computer and its content.

Re: screen savers

Hi Maaz,

some screensaver however use a lot of cpu power and people wonder, why their machine is so slow!! ;-)
If you use a screen saver for security reason, use a static one line blank page.

greetings,

Michael
