sendmail: SAP -> Exchange: DSN error

Anyone got any idea what this error in /var/adm/syslog/mail.log means?

Nov 14 14:36:51 aq00 sendmail[14899]: OAA14897: OAA14899: DSN: Data format error

The message being passed from the SAP program mlunxsnd to sendmail is 7bit plaintext...

Ian :

you may want to take a look at these threads:

You would probably need to edit your /etc/mail/sendmail.cf and set the noreceipts option - do a search for DSN in your /etc/mail/sendmail.cf file.
nothing wrong with me that a few lines of code cannot fix!

Re: sendmail: SAP -> Exchange: DSN error

Have any messages been successfully sent from SAP ?

It is possible that the addresses are incorrect, i.e. trailing spaces or maybe aliased incorrectly.

Please can you provide all of the error messages relating to the message you quoted in your original post.

Re: sendmail: SAP -> Exchange: DSN error

Got it to work. The problem was with the addressing (I knew I'd sort it the moment I posted it!). SAP specify that the sending address is of the format user@SID.domain where SID is the system identifier of the SAP system. I'm still trying to get my head around the translation from German on addressing. I tested it by instead specifying user@host.domain, which although is an invalid user address, has a valid domain (and is accepted by sendmail).
Many thanks,
Karen.
