slow telnet on Tru64 5.1

My Alpha running 5.1 has decided not to respond to telnet requests with any great speed, it takes several minutes for the login prompt to appear. however once logged in every seams fine.

Has anyone any idea's?

Sounds like a DNS problem. Check the IP resolution of the client using "nslookup" or "dig" on your TRU64 server.

Re: slow telnet on Tru64 5.1

if telnet 192.168.0.10 works(thats an example) and telnet hostnamd is slow, its almost certainly a DNS issue.

check the repsonse on servers in /etc/resolv.conf with ping, nslookup and ping.

Get servers you can't ping the heck out of resolv.conf

check that /etc/nsswitch.conf goes dns before files on hosts

These taks all require root access
