sound problem

I have zt1170 and cannot configure the sound card.
Please help me.
I have Debian. when i had RH8, the sound worked fine but no luck with Debian.

1 Wich sound card do you have?******in Debian you may use sndconfig as in RH or alsaconf whatever you want******if you don`t have anyone you may installit with apt-get (apt-get install sndconfig or apt-get install alsaconf) then may be you must have in kernel installed the needed modules, then you may use modconf. Just tipe modconf in shell (konsole, xterm, whatever you want)

When you use bleeding edge hardware or laptops, sometimes your choice of distributions is limited.

Fedora Core 1 is solid, reliable and probably supports your sound card. Think about it.

Also, is it possible the card has failed? Try the test untilities that came with the computer.

But he wants to try now with Debian :).....is tired of RH ;)......and in debian you are in the bleeeeeding edge with apt-get

By the way I am SuSE Linux user =======>Why not to try SuSE Pro 9.1 wich is coming soooooon with updates form Novell-SuSE=========> with YOU (YaST Online Update) in the bleeeeding edge with updates. ;)

check the contents of /proc/sound . Is your card recognized at all? If yes which devices are setup for the card?

Hi,

Debian is strick with handing out permissions, you need to be in a specific group to be allowed to talk to the device. Check permissions on /dev/sound and put yourself in that group.

If this doesn't work, you'll need to check if your kernel module is loaded.
