startup problems

I am working on HP-UX 11.00 . When I login , some applications get started automatically. I have not configured my .login file.
Even if I restart the machine, same thing is happening.
I don't want any application to start automatically. Can anyone suggest how to solve this.?

Re: startup problems

Hi,

The simplest solution is to boot the system into either single user mode, providing you only want console access, or you could move all of your application startup files into a higher run level. For example I want my applications to start at run level 4, so I have the startup scripts in /sbin/rc4.d.
What you could do then is change the default
run level in /etc/inittab to 3, then no
application will start.

Re: startup problems

Haribaskar,

Can you describe these magic applications, like are they oracle databases?

And what you mean by automatically starting when you login, what is starting??

Re: startup problems

Netscape Navigator opens up. I am using one application called "Citrix Metaframe". The startup window for that application comes up. In addtion to the above
12 Consoles are opening during startup.

Re: startup problems

Hi,

I suppose you are getting this problem in CDE Login.

If so,

Setup a fresh Home session as follows to avoid unwanted screens poping up.

1)Login through CDE.
2)This time you will get all those 12 terminal windows and netscape .etc.,
3)Close all thos screens and applications.
4)Double click on the style manager Icon (which is the fourth icon from right side in the front panel)
5)Double click Startup icon
6)Now you will get a menu with provisions to set the current session as home session.
7)If required selcet the option "Return to Home session" At login option.
8)Logout and login.
Hope this resolves your problem.

Re: startup problems

Hi,

if you log in to CDE then you find the applications that start automatically in your $HOME/.dt/sessions/current/dt.session.

Check this file and eventually remove the unnecessary entries.

I also prefer to set my Homesession once and return to this session everytime i log in. I don't use this "return to current session" (or so) which is also available.

I think this is what caused this problem in the first place. CDE tries to open the same applications which have been active during your last logoff.

Hope this helps
