sync time with time server

Hi,
I issue command
ntpdate oa-10.utac.com.sg
on the prompt and i am able to update the time of my server from the time server oa-10.utac.com.sg. But, when ic reate a cron job as follows
15 * * * * ntpdate oa-10.utac.com.sg
It didn't update the time and i see the error message
"ntpdate[26847]: no server suitable for synchronization found"
In the email.

any help?
Thanks

Salman

Re: sync time with time server

you need to add the ntp server name in ntp configuration file. it will automatically poll after a time interval.

Re: sync time with time server

I am also not sure whether HP UX can sync time from a windows server because my time server is windows based.

Re: sync time with time server

From a Windows *NTP* server, yes... but Windows servers are not NTP servers by default.

The "no server suitable for synchronization found" message from the ntpd command means that the oa-10.utac.com.sg did not "speak" the NTP protocol.
