system crash

HELP!

one of my main apps servers has just booted 200 users off cos it crashed, looked at the console and it said "unexpected HPMC/TOC" then a load of hex numbers appeared.

anyone heard of this error?

This means High Priority Machine Check/Transfer of Control and indicates a serious hardware problem.
At this point there is no way to know more than that. The next step is to examine the system dump and crash files.

I suspect the same thing will happen again so you really need to put in a call to HP Support.

If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

You definitely need to call HP on this. As James said the HPMC indicates a serious hardware problem. When the system comes back up, you might check the /var/adm/syslog/OLDSyslog.log and see if it says anything.

Hi Mark,

Hopefully the machine is back up and running now. As far as what caused it, call HP.
But meanwhile you can look at what is Q4. Q4 is tool for analyzing crash dumps.

You can look at the HP document OZBEKBRC00000611 for more information on how to use it. (I didn't check if the doc # is still valid)
