Hai all
A) We have configured the DL350 G5 storage to have two partitions -
one
to be used locally with the Windows 2003 server. The other partition is
to be used over NFS with rx2620 server on which we are planning to
install SAP ERP 2005 IDES . The NAS storage will hold the SAP
database.
NAS is connected to rx2600 over RJ45 ethernet LAN.
B) Now we can see the storage space over NFS and can create
directories. The touch option also is working.
C) But when we are trying to create SAP database from either SAPinst
or
directly from Oracle SQLPlus, the process hangs.
D) In Windows NFS services we have assigned the Unix Uid and Gid ( in
this case ora and dba ) for the share. We can create files from
the
said unix Uid.
Kindly please help on this..
Regards,
Sanjay

Solution
hi Sanjay,
> C) But when we are trying to create SAP database from either SAPinst
or
directly from Oracle SQLPlus, the process hangs.
Please isolate the possible problems. 1. Oracle problem 2. Storage problem.
i.e. When creating the database, try not to specify files on the storage device.
If this still does not work, then it must be an oracle installation problem.
else if it works then we can further drill-down into possibilities of problems at the storage level.
revert.
kind regards

Re: the process hangs when trying to create SAP database from either SAPinst
Thank you for replay raj..
we have checked to install locally in the server. we could install with out any problem.
but if we trying to install in NAS at perticular place..ie."creating database" stage sap installation hangs.
is there any NFS filesystem issue to install sap in NFS mount point. will sap support to install in nfs mount filesystem?
Regards,
Sanjay

Re: the process hangs when trying to create SAP database from either SAPinst
hi Sanjay,
I don't think you can install on all types NFS mounted file systems. I had one similar problem once (linux NFS share).
You need to check with Oracle. (Unfortunately, i currently cannot access metalink to verify this.)
kind regards
yogeeraj
