thunderbird 1.5.0.00&1.5.0.5 on HP-UX 11.23 IA

Hi folks,

Yesterday I was courageous and dared to download and install Thunderbird from the HP website (first GTK, then Thunderbird). I'm using a VNC server and Gnome from HP as Window Manager. Gnome has been working very well indeed for me on HP-UX 11.11 PA-RISC for three years or so.

Unfortunately I keep getting suspicious messages and Thunderbird likes coredumping.

Since there is no official support neither from HP nor from Mozilla (Mozilla doesn't even mention versions built for platforms other than Windows, Mac and Linux) I guess I'll have to give up at this point. I suppose I'll try Mozilla next. Firefox seems to be doing ok so far.

I'll be generous and give you some points if you provide some words of comfort. I honestly don't have much hope of real constructive help but you could try if you like. A colleague of mine has compiled 1.5.7 for PA-RISC and says it's working great for him. But I'm hardly able to take the time to compile this for Itanium, even not knowing if the coredumps will really be gone then.

I downloaded an "alpha" version 1.5.0.5 from an HP website, the version seems not worse than 1.5.0.00 but still likes coredumping.

Try to install the depot from mozilla.

Dear Robert-Jan,

This is exactly the depot I installed yesterday. This Thunderbird 1.5.0.5 has coredumped on me 3 times so far today within an hour. Another interesting message I saw was:

(thunderbird-bin:5090): Gtk-WARNING **: Could not find the icon 'gnome-fs-home'. The 'hicolor' theme
was not found either, perhaps you need to install it.
You can get a copy from:

From the freedesktop.org website I couldn't quite figure out how to install the theme and I am skeptical if it will help much.

But OS for this bug and patch is Linux and the bug information is from 2004 so I don't see how that could possibly help me.

Hi folks,

It seems the problem only (?) occurs when sending emails.

But since I found nobody so far who has been able to effectively help me and I have no critical need to use HP-UX for my main work I am thinking about switching to a Linux system instead, either installing Linux on the rx2620 or swapping it for a ProLiant.

More bad news, the code is clearly not debugged or well tested on HP-UX. Too bad. Bug reports abound.
