two paths to LUN when using PSP 7.7 ?

Hello,

Short version : Do I need Secure Path for Linux (RedHat 3) ?

Long Version :
I have been using SAN on BL20G3 for some time now, at the time I installed a customize version of PSP 7.1. Nos I am trying to use Proliant Support Pack (PSP) 7.7 but I see two paths to luns.

On system with PSP 7.7

earth: root> rpm -qa | grep hp

hp_qla2x00src-7.07.05.02-6
hpijs-1.3-32.1.8
hpadu-7.70-12
hpsmh-2.1.7-168
hprsm-7.7.0-99.rhel3
hp-vt-1.1.0-11.rhel3
hppyd-1.0.3-6
hpvca-2.1.7-1
hpasm-7.7.0-115.rhel3
rhpl-0.110.4-1
hpacucli-7.70-12
hponcfg-1.6.0-1
hpdiags-7.7.0-142
hp-pel-1.0.0-9.rhel3

earth: root> pvscan -u

pvscan -- reading all physical volumes (this may take a while...)
pvscan -- ACTIVE PV "/dev/sda " with UUID "ryTOSw-mnrq-fLXj-ubFu-wzWK-sYXh-H7YiT4" of VG "vg10" [9.99 GB / 9.99 GB free]
pvscan -- inactive PV "/dev/sdb " with UUID "ryTOSw-mnrq-fLXj-ubFu-wzWK-sYXh-H7YiT4" of VG "vg10" [9.99 GB / 9.99 GB free]
pvscan -- ACTIVE PV "/dev/cciss/c0d0p2" with UUID "Y07VVI-NC0t-3uuU-hQip-rOX4-0z44-FJ1a6E" of VG "vg00" [14.80 GB / 484 MB free]
pvscan -- ACTIVE PV "/dev/cciss/c0d1p1" with UUID "MtEgwU-nPCF-0x2k-Lzt4-jOZz-2q23-PQA5s7" of VG "vg01" [13.99 GB / 2.22 GB free]
pvscan -- ACTIVE PV "/dev/cciss/c0d2p1" with UUID "Rb0Lmp-9sy6-vRi6-GqNm-lWKT-RnYe-55nkSD" of VG "vg02" [18.62 GB / 3.05 GB free]
pvscan -- ACTIVE PV "/dev/cciss/c0d2p2" with UUID "22OV5p-lqWH-vYMa-px1D-22S6-WXYC-cWm2LB" of VG "vg10" [20.12 GB / 8 MB free]
pvscan -- total: 6 [87.56 GB] / in use: 6 [87.56 GB] / in no VG: 0 [0]

that is /dev/sda and /dev/sdb are the same LUN seen twice.

On System with 'lower PSP' (*)

hpdiags-7.6.0-23
hpvca-2.1.5-8
hpijs-1.3-32.1.8
hpasm-7.6.0-111.rhel3
hp-pel-1.0.0-9.rhel3
hponcfg-1.5.0-1
hp_qla2x00src-7.07.03p4-20
hpsmh-2.1.6-156
rhpl-0.110.4-1
hpacucli-7.60-18
hpadu-7.60-18
hprsm-7.6.0-106.rhel3

and pvscan yield

pvscan -- reading all physical volumes (this may take a while...)
pvscan -- ACTIVE PV "/dev/sda " with UUID "VdPwmE-Z8YW-xkwL-Gj2Z-V0Cx-V3jH-w22aTl" of VG "vg10" [15.99 GB / 12.05 GB free]

pvscan -- total: 9 [147.56 GB] / in use: 7 [144.53 GB] / in no VG: 2 [3.02 GB]

no SAN's LUN are seen twice

(*) Originally a PSP 7.1, and I put PSP 7.6 on top of it.

I've logged a call of course but local folks say I must install secure path for Linux.
I've always believe this feature was builtin in linux.

What am I doing wrong ? why do I see two paths using PSP 7.7 ?

Re: two paths to LUN when using PSP 7.7 ?

The qlogic driver probably was installed without the multipath support enabled. You should be able to modify this configuration.

According to the qlogic documentation, it states:

These values reside in a file called /etc/hp_qla2x00.conf. HP recommends that you do not edit this file directly, but use the set_parm script. If you want to edit these values manually in the /etc/hp_qla2x00.conf file, you will have to run the edit_conf and make_initrd scripts after you do so or else your new values will not take effect.

Driver parameter settings:

QLogic Failover: -x Using multipathing and failover functionality built into the qla2x00
adapter driver.

Re: two paths to LUN when using PSP 7.7 ?

Hello,

Thanks, I see nos there is a difference between the two hosts. I'll try to rebuild initrd.
