Have a read through the Oracle documentation that came with your CD's. The is some very documentation available to should give you plenty of details on the process you need to follow.

Re: upgrade oracle 8i to 9i

hi,

If there is nothing in the 8i database, it would be wiser to just remove the 8i database and do a fresh 9i database installation.

Concerning the config and other settings you can always apply them to the 9i database. If they supported of course.

Also, if you have enough resource, it would be better to go directly to Oracle 11g.

good luck!

Launch the Installer, view the installed products from where you have the option to uninstall.

I dont have access to my servers right now so cannot confirm the exact steps.

Please give it a try and let us know how it goes.

good luck!

Re: upgrade oracle 8i to 9i

Hi,

I would suggest you to check what pre-installation task you need to perform before installing 9i on HP-UX (system patches, memory sizing and etc.)

9i installation guide you can find here:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/oracle9i.html

If you wish, you can keep 2 Oracle versions running on the same machine.
You can achieve it by changing the Oracle variables in oracle user├в s profile.

echo "Choose oracle version [9] or [8]"
read VAR
case $VAR in
9)
. /path/oracle9_variables.sh
;;
8)
. /path/oracle8-variables.sh
;;
*)
#default
. /path/oracle9_variables.sh
;;
esac
