using Lynx to access a web page asking for a UID and PSWD

I am try to access a webpage with lynx that asks for a UID and password. This is what I do:
I enter the URL.
A form comes up asking for Username:_________________
Submit
Password: _______________

I fill in the form TAb to Submit and at the bottom of the screen is then printed
"Making HTTP connection to URL.XXX.XXX:12503"
the curser sits there for a few minutes, then I am back to the form. If a use firefox I get routed ok. Can Lynx handle this type of page? If so any idea what I maybe doing wrong?

Apparently not, but the actual answer may
depend on which type of page "this type of
page" actually is. "A form" on "a webpage"
is not a sufficient description.
