vhand hogs my server

Hi all,
Since 2 days my server has been having some problems.
In effect I find out that vhand is hogging resoruces.
So I have an high cpu time spent in system mode and an high use to internal disks (where I have swap area).
The problem starts every day about at 6 am but I haven't got any crontab job scheduled at this time.
If I reboot server I get to normal system functionality.

How can I know what process creates problem?
Can I try to "restart" vhand with kill -1?

Thank You

Re: vhand hogs my server

Hi there - a few questions that may prompt a few more answers!!

Are you running low on memory?
How much RAM does the system have?
How much swap is configured?
Are there any file-systems which are using options OTHER than 'delaylog' in the /etc/fstab (i.e. delaylog nodatainlog convosync= etc.)?

PHKL_30796 was a patch recommended for issues with vhand hogging resource, although this issue tends to be highlighted when there is high IO on a filesystem with certain mount options specified. I've experienced this first hand!

All the best - Keith

Re: vhand hogs my server

I know vhand is pager process.
What I find very strange is that suddenly at about 6 am this problem appears without anyone does anything on system.
It seems don't be any memory shortage.
Only vhand seems to run without any swap activity done by swapper process.
I applied vhand patch suggested on this thread.
