Shalom,

getbyhostname issues are almost always a result of faulty host name resolution

/etc/nsswitch.conf
/etc/resolv.conf (one or more servers not working).

Stuff like that.

Then it sounds as if you need to educate your support line employees. The issue mentioned in that note has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with a 64-bit OS. If that truly was the problem, then blaming on the 64-bit OS is utterly ridiculous!
