webmin problem

I recently installed Webmin for administration purposes on my linux box. But I am unable to start it up from my browser. everytime i give the url "http://daslinux:10000" I get the message host not found or if I am connected to the net it automatically goes into a netscape serach.

I encountered no errors during installation. I have tried both rpm install as well as tar.gz install. both give me the same error.

can anyone shed some light on this.

thankx

Re: webmin problem

Have you checked if webmins is running:

/etc/webmin
use the start command to start.

Re: webmin problem

A coworker was just working on the same thing this morning. Does it work if you put the IP address of the box in the address. Instead of http://daslinux:1000 try http://192.12.2.2:1000. Of course you should replaced 192.12.2.2 with your box's IP address.

Re: webmin problem

the webserver has already been started I even stopped it and restarted it.

there is no response to putting the ip address instead of the local host name.

Re: webmin problem

Trent, I hope it isn't just a typo, but you cite the address as http://daslinux:10000 (i.e. port ten thousand). Josh then commented quite normally using an example port of 1000 (one thousand). See the /etc/webmin/miniserv.conf file (your installation location may vary) line "port=?" for your current setting.

Re: webmin problem

I saw the typo error and I made sure I entered " http://daslinux:10000" and " http://198.168.167.52:10000" . the problem still exists.

While going through my network configuration I noticed that my lo interface is inactive and am unable to activate it. Could this be the problem, if so how can I rectify it. I think if I am able to activate my lo interface it might work.
