whither ldap?

i'm updating cifs/samba on an 11.11 system.

i am not using ldap for authentication, so i opted to install samba without the ldap client co-requisite.

i go to start samba...and it cores because it can't find libldap.sl

ok...fine....so off to software.hp.com i go looking for ldap

check on the ldap integration package...sounds 'el perfecto' -- but no 11.11!

no what? rather a bit of catch-22, eh?

Hi Donna:

Since 11.11 is no longer offered for sale (as of December 2009) its software offering have begun to disappear from HP's web.

You should look to the latest copy of Internet Express for 11.11 if you have it.

internet express for 11.11 isn't available

this rather has me in a pickle because (of course) my old samba is gone (although i did tar-up a bunch of files) and i'm going to have really unhappy users

do you know if restoring the files under /var/opt/samba, /etc/opt/samba and /opt/samba will actually get old samba running again?

You might look to fetching the 11.11 binaries for 'openldap' and/or 'samba' from the HP-UX Porting Centre :

If you choose/need to go this route, be sure to download and install the many dependencies.

apparently we had stressed enough for the day and the computer deities took mercy on us.

we found the application cd's and were able to install ldap from there!

samba is running and all are happy (as can be for a thursday :-)

problem solved...although not quite as elegantly as one might hope.
