Building the Future with HP Helion CloudSystem: Integra Public Cloud

There are builders and then there are Builders. Even the most basic construction companies can build homes, offices, and retail outlets. But building a motorway, a hydro-electric power plant, an airport, or an official Olympic facility requires several additional orders of complexity, scale, and attention to detail.

integra2.jpgIntegral Grupa in Bosnia and Herzegovina definitely falls into the latter category. Projects of this size are as daunting from a construction perspective as they are from the preparation, documentation, feasibility, and organizational point of view. It’s one reason Integral Grupa has become one of technological leaders in South Eastern Europe.

The team wasn’t always in this position. Several years ago, Integral Grupa’s IT organization, Integra Data Center (IntegraDC), was facing a major Information and Communications Technology (ICT) challenge. The team’s technology environment wasn't keeping pace with opportunities for growth.

integra3.jpgRoutine IT operations were increasingly consuming the time of the entire team, to the point that it was interfering with growth. Running its services on traditional IT infrastructure started to become a roadblock as response times for new services became longer and the work grew more complex with each new request.

Faced with limited resources and operations capabilities to bid on massive, international projects, the leadership team at IntegraDC knew it needed to invest in a solution that would allow the business to scale to meet the challenge—everything from server virtualization to corporate strategic planning tools and ERP systems.

Before the team at IntegraDC started looking at a systems refresh, they engaged with the HP Cloud team, who took all aspects of their business into consideration. That conversation led to talks with consultants and sales representatives with HP experts in Vienna, Sarajevo, Zagreb, Belgrade and Skopje.

At the same time, the team was looking to expand IT offerings to its external customers. Delivering services via its existing, aging IT infrastructure was also becoming a challenge, and IntegraDC wanted the ability to scale its public offerings with more flexibility and offer a better customer experience with a lower price tag.

Everyone seemed to agree on one thing: IntegraDC would benefit immensely from cloud computing products and services from HP Helion. From there, the team worked with HP to build an experimental cloud environment to demo the cloud platform in its own data center and test it in several use cases.

With a clearer path in front of them, the team at IntegraDC was ready to make the investment to develop a powerful platform with broader market value and use it in the best possible way. Over the next six months, the HP Cloud team helped the IntegraDC team to not only build out its cloud environment for production, but to reorganize business processes and totally transform the way IntegraDC interacts with its technology stack.

Why HP Helion?

integra4.jpgToday, IntegraDC can deploy new applications in its new HP Helion CloudSystem Private Cloud in substantially less time than it used to take. Gone are the days of ordering hardware, manually installing and configuring servers, and waiting to deliver new services. HP Helion CloudSystem gives the team more time to innovate and improve its applications because it’s spending less time maintaining an aging IT infrastructure.

Ultimately, its move to the cloud has already enabled not just Integra’s own private cloud, but new offerings to external customers, including Infrastructure-as-a-Service, Software-as-a-Service, and finally Platform-as-a-Service products.

It all adds up to a technology environment that is equal to the scale and complexity of Integral Grupa’s projects as well as IntegraDC’s offerings to customers in the public cloud.

In a part of the world that is still in technological development, the ability to offer customers access to cutting edge technology through its public cloud is an enormous market differentiator for IntegraDC in the Eastern European region.

With the ability to power services to the financial sector, the public sector, and SMBs, IntegraDC is well positioned to use its investment in HP Helion CloudSystem technology to bring a broad solution set to business leaders in an area of the world that has traditionally had limited access to the kind of flexible, scalable solutions the cloud offers.

And because its HP Helion CloudSystem environment is built on OpenStack technology, the team at IntegraDC can continue to scale its business without the threat of vendor lock-in. With open systems, industry expertise, and the technology stack to pull off even the largest public and private projects, the IntegraDC team looks forward to build a bright future in the cloud.
