Cloud and Disaster Recovery – not an Oxymoron!

If you’re skeptical about putting your data in the cloud, would you be willing to host disaster recovery in the cloud? The answer should be "yes". Today’s demand for instant access to information and the explosive growth in data has made it critical for businesses of all sizes to more closely examine their disaster recovery plans. And they are finding that cloud-based continuity is an attractive solution.

Greater variations in data storage environments has created the need for disaster recovery solutions that support workloads distributed across multiple computing environments. These various environments include: on-premise, public cloud, private cloud, and managed cloud.  Having disaster recovery delivered “as-a-Service” gives organizations the safety net they need, while providing the agility and flexibility of cloud and maintaining control and avoiding unintended effects on the IT infrastructure.

Symantec and HP Enterprise Services have announced a joint initiative to develop a new Disaster Recovery as-a-Service (DRaaS) solution based on HP Helion OpenStack. The solution will leverage the HP enterprise cloud for cost savings, automation and a self-service user experience. This collaboration will allow customers to protect their workloads whether they run in a traditional IT environment or are hosted in OpenStack-based cloud environments.

This new DRaaS solution focuses on application recovery, failover and failback and will monitor the most widely applied applications in the market. The service will minimize recovery times, data loss, and associated downtime costs for any size organization – from large enterprises to small and medium businesses.  This new initiative complements our existing cloud and traditional IT disaster recovery services.  Read the press release to learn more.
