Mendix brings Rapid App Dev to the HP Helion Development Platform ecosystem

If there’s one truth Mark Rogers, the VP of Business Development at Mendix, knows well, it’s that his software company is on a super fast track. He credits 200 talented, hard-working, out-of-the-box thinkers for shaking up cloud computing with the delivery of their visual Mendix application modeling toolset for rapid app developers.  Many enterprises have a mix of developers from a traditional developer who develop using a variety of languages to a rapid developer who prefers not to code but seek visual development tools to create applications.

Mendix addresses the needs of the rapid developer by providing a visual/data application modeling solution that enables companies to rapidly build, integrate, deploy, and share multi-device business applications faster--without coding.  Mendix applications run in the cloud as a native cloud application; plus they run across browsers, smartphones, tablets, and anywhere else the application is displayed. That means Mendix customers typically achieve high ROI in a matter of days and weeks which is what enterprises seek for development of a class of business applications.

IT organizations are not delivering new cloud applications fast enough in order to meet business demands. Traditional application development efforts are slow, and faced with growing backlogs, LOB managers turn to shadow IT by adopting apps from public cloud providers. This obviously complicates an organization’s cloud computing strategy, which may not have been well-defined in the first place. For a certain category of business applications, speed of development and deployment is directly proportional to the ROI to the organization.

CIOs also view cloud solutions as the way to transform a business, but the path there is not always clear. Sometimes organizations will take their application development offshore, which could present further challenges. And, when it comes to application portfolio management, many CIOs are wondering,” How do I move existing apps to the cloud or is it better to re-write them? And how do I ensure they’re agile enough to adapt to changing business needs? ”

The answer is clear. By being able to create and modify apps more rapidly on an open platform, you can enable:

  • Business users and rapid developers
  • Accelerate the move to private, public or hybrid clouds
  • Prevent the pitfalls with shadow IT

Mendix and HP are working together to provide a powerful force accelerating CIOs toward the New Style of IT by removing technical barriers, directly enabling business users and business innovation.  Mendix provides visual, model-driven development, business process design, workflow and services integration for faster delivery of modern, multi-channel applications  This is a natural addition to the developer tooling and experience, a key feature of the HP Helion Development Platform ecosystem, complementing deeper languages and frameworks used by developers such as .NET, Java, Node, Perl, Python, PHP and GO.

Based on open source technologies such as Cloud Foundry software and Docker containers and integrated with HP Helion OpenStack, HP Helion Development Platform provides developers and IT Operations with an open platform for agility, portability and scalability.  Mendix simplifies the creation of applications for non-technical domain experts and enables their development and deployment as enterprise-ready Cloud Foundry applications with the same one-click deployment to HP Helion Development Platform that’s available to traditional enterprise developers. Plus, HP and Mendix are collaborating with a network of system integrators and service providers to enable fast industry-specific application development capabilities and templates that can be used by rapid developers, business-oriented developers and other users.

And, this is exactly the kind of panache that the HP Helion team is looking for in its first ISV Early Adopter Forum partner.  It’s exciting news, indeed. But this is just the start. Tremendous growth opportunities are clearly ahead for the HP-Mendix partnership.
