Private Cloud adoption forecasted to grow to 85 percent. Recent report takes closer look

We’re all familiar with the rapid growth of public cloud services over the last few years. Enterprises are using public cloud services to get fast access to IT services with a simple swipe of a credit card.  Its fast, easy and convenient. What you may not know is enterprises are also rapidly adopting private cloud solutions.  A recent report by TBR shows 50 percent of enterprises surveyed are using private cloud solutions today, increasing to 85 percent by 2018. This report also estimates the private cloud market will  grow from $45 billion to $80 billion by 2019.

So why are enterprises deploying private cloud solutions so quickly? They like the fast access to services they get with public cloud services, but private cloud solutions additionally give them greater security and compliance.  The seemingly continuous stream of news about hackers breaking into corporate networks has many enterprises concerned about how secure their data is in public cloud service providers. Other enterprises have strict compliance requirements that can’t be met with public cloud services--making private cloud solutions the only choice.

Enterprises are also recognizing the question of whether to use public cloud services or private cloud solutions isn’t even the right question. They’re realizing hybrid cloud environments, environments that combine both private and public cloud services, is the right way to go. And starting out with a private cloud that can be expanded to manage public cloud services is the right strategy.

HP Helion, HP’s brand of cloud products and services, was developed based on this belief. Announced over a year ago, HP Helion enables enterprises to deploy private clouds that can turn into hybrid cloud solutions. With support for private cloud environments using VMware, Hyper-V, OpenStack and bare metal servers, as well as built in capability to manage Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure, HP Helion solutions are ideal for enterprises deploying hybrid clouds.
