Time to play: Microsoft releases Azure Stack TP3

Today, Microsoft announced the release of Microsoft Azure Stack Technical Preview 3 (TP3). Azure Stack allows you to run Azure services on-premises so you can have a consistent hybrid application development environment that includes both Azure public cloud and on-premises services. Have you made plans to play with it? Azure Stack will be available mid-calendar year 2017, but you don’t have to wait to find out what deploying an Azure-consistent hybrid cloud on-premises can mean for your business.

With HPE, you can start planning your Azure Stack hybrid cloud deployment today. In the previous blog in this series, we discussed seven reasons why deploying Microsoft® Azure® Stack on HPE infrastructure delivers best-in-class Azure hybrid cloud for accelerated deployment and reliability, and the narrow window of opportunity you have to leapfrog your competitors. In this blog, we’ll briefly touch on the capabilities of TP3, and then I’ll highlight the reasons why I believe HPE ProLiant for Microsoft Azure Stack is the only Azure Stack solution that makes sense for your business.

Your Azure-consistent, on-premises, hybrid cloud

As an extension of Azure, Azure Stack offers services in an on-premises, hybrid cloud environment under your control. By enabling a consistent and flexible hybrid cloud environment, your developers can leverage the same tools and processes to build apps for both hybrid and public cloud, and then deploy them to the optimal target platform that best meets your business, regulatory, and technical requirements. It also allows you to accelerate development by using pre-built solutions from the Azure Marketplace, including many open source tools and technologies.

Azure Stack TP3 allows you to deploy and operate both Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) services using the same tools and offering the same experience as Azure public cloud. Taking virtualization to the next level, Azure IaaS leverages the capabilities of Virtual Machine Scale Sets with true auto-scaling, enabling you to quickly build, deploy, and scale modern apps including containerized workloads. At the same time, Azure-consistent services enable hybrid deployment and portability of fully managed PaaS (Azure App Service) and serverless computing (Azure Functions) apps in your own data center.

This latest release of Azure Stack software has new features that enable simplified scale out workloads, running in locations without connections to Azure, cloud utility-model procurement features, Azure consistency updates, deployment reliability, and infrastructure and security enhancements for operations. Shortly after TP3, Azure Functions will be available to run on TP3, followed by Blockchain, Cloud Foundry, and Mesos. Azure Stack integrated systems will also be available for order in mid-CY17.
