WIND Telecom Scales Blazing-fast Data Network in an OpenStack Cloud

If you’re a digital citizen as well as a resident of the Dominican Republic, WIND Telecom has you covered. Delivering everything from basic Internet service to advanced IP telephony and digital television, WIND Telecom offers just about any kind of information, entertainment, or business service you can imagine or need.

WIND Telecom owns a wide-range WiMAX infrastructure in the Dominican Republic, and is currently deploying 4G TD-LTE technology in the main urban and rural zones of the country. This infrastructure will allow the company to:

  • expand its services portfolio of high-speed Internet (both fixed and mobile),
  • Implement new content strategies and service plans designed for both residential and business end-users
  • Introduce a wide range of next-generation devices created to satisfy the demands of today’s lifestyle that would make Silicon Valley residents jealous.

The IT team recently began rethinking how it delivered services to its end users and business partners, and wanted to get on a path toward consolidation. This process paved the way for WIND Telecom’s journey to the cloud, allowing the telecommunications company to scale their solution to other business units in their group, offer enhanced end-user services, and even enter the arena of Infrastructure-as-a-Service offerings.

WIND Telecom ultimately chose to build its HP CloudSystem platform with HP ConvergedSystem 700x for Cloud—a purpose-built, integrated hardware, software, and services solution. This solution allows both virtual and physical provisioning—to refresh, consolidate, and propel its IT infrastructure capabilities into the future. With its choice of hypervisor, OS, and heterogeneous infrastructure environments, WIND Telecom is positioned to protect its investment as it continues to grow, reducing its operational costs and being able to spend more time innovating. HP OneView gives IT total control over servers, storage, and network connections.

By purchasing a purpose-built system, the IT team avoids months of guesswork, hardware configuration, and software and support surprises. With deployment currently underway, WIND Telecom is looking forward to moving into production with a new style of IT that keeps it at the head of the telecommunications pack in the region.

WIND Telecom is a full telecommunications and content provider in the Dominican Republic which offers fixed and mobile high-speed internet, local and international data connectivity, data center services, VoIP, HD digital television services, both for residential and business users in the main cities of the country. It is the only telecommunications service provider to use a reliable wireless network, as well as complimenting microwave and fiber optics solutions, serving competitive and high quality services to its end-users.
