Why Your Private Cloud Needs a Long-Term Strategy

What happens if your company fails to define the data it is bringing to the cloud? Will you face compliance and security risks as a result? How much money do you lose if you fail to assign the correct users to these sets of data? These are just a few of the hundreds of questions your organization needs to answer before private cloud can be the cost-effective, flexible, and secure space you need it to be.

To arrive at this private cloud nirvana, you need to develop and execute a cloud strategy.

Why Cloud Strategies are a Must for Private Cloud Users

Private cloud resources are ramping up in the enterprise, but where many users fall short is the cloud strategy. While organizations are doing a decent job at defining short-term objectives, this only addresses how private cloud can help them right now, in their current situation.

The problem with many cloud strategies is they lack long-term objectives.

Without a strategy that goes beyond the here and now, enterprise customers may be limiting their cloud capabilities in the future. For example, some businesses may unintentionally limit how they move apps and workloads with a short-sighted design. If the infrastructure is only set up to handle the needs of today, there is little room for cloud resources to expand and adjust with the company.

In the end, the lack of a long-term private cloud strategy can end up costing the company valuable time and profits. If you are going to invest in private cloud, then be sure you and your provider are spending enough time planning for the future. Two, five or ten years from now, you will be glad you did.
