1. shutdown system
2. PE (power off the rp box)
3. remove all cables
4. take rp box out of the rack
5. remove the top and side cover and unseat cell boards,MP cards
6. replace the back plane
7. replace the cover and board,mp cards
8. reconnect the cables
9. power on the system
10. check everything is O.K.
Do I need a key to boot the system after power on the RP box?

SolutionWe didn't have to remove the system from the rack when changing the backplane. It should come out when fully extended depending upon side access clearance. it took us about 20 minutes to do. YMMV.
Sorry can't help you on the key question.

Re: Could anybody tell me how to change the RP8400 backplane?
Your procedure looks pretty good. I caution you on firmware though. MP's and system boards are inter-dependent upon this. You may have to downgrade/upgrade as necessary.
Hope this helps!!

Re: Could anybody tell me how to change the RP8400 backplane?
Your step is OK, Before remove all cable please mark accordingly.
Also take Ignite OS Backup before down the System.
