GSP Updates on RP7400, RP5450

I've got a couple of RP7400's and RP5450's with very old GSP firmware on them. When I try to update on the RP7400's it fails saying it can't find the GSP updates. I'm trying to get it to B.02.15 & then from there up to B.02.21. I've not had chance to try updating the RP5450's.

I know this is probably down to the age of the GSP firmware not recognising B.02.15 so would need to find an upgrade path & the subsequent firmware downloads. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I've listed the systems and GSP version below.

RP7400 - Hardware Revision 8 Firmware Revision A.01.09

RP7400 - Hardware Revision 8 Firmware Revision X.17.04

RP5450 - Hardware Revision 8 Firmware Revision A.01.09

RP5450 - Hardware Revision N0 Firmware Revision B.02.14

TIA

Re: GSP Updates on RP7400, RP5450

FYI I was able to update the latter of these from B.02.14 to B.02.15 & then upto B.02.21.

Re: GSP Updates on RP7400, RP5450

Hi Sean,

this is *different* hardware!

A.01.09 -> A.01.12 (latest)

For the others B.02.21 is the latest.

IIRC The X... is a former A... version, need to check this.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: GSP Updates on RP7400, RP5450

Sean:

Different Part numbers require different Firmware:

N-4000 (rp7400)
A3639-69201 Core I/O & GSP > "A" Firmware
A3639-69019 (A3639C) Core I/O w/web console GSP > "B" Firmware

L-Class (rp54xx)
A5191-69012/60012 > A6696A GSP > "A" Firmware
A6144-69012/60012 > A6696B GSP > "B" Firmware

YMMV

Re: GSP Updates on RP7400, RP5450

cnb posted the part numbers of different GSP versions, thanks!

Even the system board model is not a 100% reliable way of identifying the GSP type, if the server model was upgraded at some point.

We still have a few rp5470s which originally begun their life as L1000s or early L2000s, and thus have GSP hardware version A, although version B would be expected in a server that came from the factory as a rp5470.

If you cannot verify the part number of the GSP (e.g. the server is at remote location), the rule is:

- If the GSP firmware revision is A.nn.nn or X.nn.nn, the GSP hardware is version A. Upgrade to the revision A.01.12 (latest & final).

- If the GSP firmware revision is B.nn.nn, the GSP hardware is version B. Upgrade to the latest B.nn.nn revision.

NOTE: read the firmware installation notes carefully. If the current firmware revision is B.02.14 or older, you must upgrade to B.02.15 first... and that upgrade requires a special procedure.

(Basically, the B.02.15 firmware package contains *two* sets of GSP firmware files: a special UpgradeOnly firmware which must be installed first, then the real B.02.15 firmware.)

Re: GSP Updates on RP7400, RP5450

Cheers Guys. I assumed (wrongly) that at some point the GSP firmware had gone from A to B as the A versions are not on the standard download page. I found them on the ftp archive and successfully upgraded to A.01.12.
