HP 9000 827S

We have a client who wishes to remove the hard disks to scrap the HP 9000 - any suggestions on removing the hard disks - how are they physically accessed?

Shalom,

Hope the system cover. They should be visible.

I'm not familiar with that model, but there might be diagrams at http://docs.hp.com

Re: HP 9000 827S

I used to have both an 827 and an 847 but it was so long ago that I don't really remember and my historical collection of manuals doesn't seem to have anything on them anymore either. Searching docs.hp.com and partsurfer.hp.com also produced nothing.

I would go with Steve's guess and yank off the front cover to see what lives behind it. Do you have physical access or are you trying to tell the client what to look for?

Re: HP 9000 827S

very old servers!
If I recall, at the front down the bottom there are 2 screws which hold the faceplate on.
Take that off, and then behind it there will be a metal enclosure holding the storage devices, which you remove after undoing more screws, then the diosks are held in the metal frame by yet more scres!.
Used to be able to stip one down to its component parts in 20 minutes.
My house is the bank's, my money the wife's, But my opinions belong to me, not HP!

Follow the link, scroll down to the CE Handbook pdf and get it.

All the chassis (e.g. I- H- E- G-class) are very similar.

==> section 8-12

Hope this helps!

Re: HP 9000 827S

It may be the lack of pin extraction tool PN 8710-1758 that is the problem - all 'screws' on plate look like rivets.

There are torx screws only. Lift up the cage while pulling ...

Hope this helps!
